Ukraine claimed Saturday to have struck one of Russia’s largest oil refineries in a drone attack, starting a fire at the facility more than 700 miles into Russian territory.

The defense ministry said it intercepted and destroyed 85 Ukrainian drones overnight in several regions of the country.

A drone strike reportedly hit the Taneko oil refinery in Tatarstan, Russian Telegram channel ASTRA reported on Jan. 11.

Regional Governor Roman Busargin stated that the “fuel combustion process continues” and is expected to last for another two days. He added that a change in wind direction has shifted the smoke away from the city.

The industrial area in Gatchina, located in the Leningrad region, is currently on fire. The industrial plants there were targeted by Ukrainian drones early this morning. This target is situated over 620 miles from the front line.

A fire at a fuel storage facility near a strategic bomber airbase in the Russian city of Engels is still ongoing. Residents may experience "discomfort," citing the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin.

Russia was once again in flames today as a suspected Ukrainian drone strike' devastated a chemical plant in Vladimir Putin's home city of St Petersburg, leaving a "pillar of fire". Huge repeated explosions were heard at the facility in Gatchina - which makes acetone that can be used for military explosives and rocket fuel.
