The art of cinema is beyond an individual and the artist must not be elevated above the art, said Kamal Haasan, in a post on X.

Kamal Haasan on November 11 issued a statement urging fans, audience, media, and members of the film industry to refrain from using tags like ‘Ulaganayagan’ (hero of the universe) while mentioning his name.

Kamal Haasan has officially decided to drop the title "Ulaga Nayagan" (Universal Hero) and other honorary prefixes associated with his name. On Monday, the veteran actor announced that he prefers to be addressed simply as "Kamal Haasan," "Kamal," or "KH.

Indian actor Kamal Haasan penned a note for his fans, asking them to call him by his name. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Haasan said that he feels “gratitude over being bestowed with endearing titles such as Ulaganayagan,” however, he respectfully declined all such titles and prefixes, calling himself a student of the art of cinema.

Kamal Haasan declines honorary titles like Ulaganayagan and requests to be addressed simply as Kamal, emphasizing humility and his commitment to the art of cinema.

The statement read, "I have always felt a deep sense of gratitude over being bestowed with endearing titles such as Ulaganayagan, among others. Such accolades, given by the people and recognised by esteemed colleagues and admirers, have always been humbling, and I've been genuinely moved by your love in conferring it upon me."

Looks like Kamal Haasan taken a leaf our of Ajith Kumar's book and has requested both the fans and media to drop any prefix to his name.
