Manchester United's latest quest for European silverware begins on Wednesday when they host Twente as the league phase of the UEFA Europa League kicks off.

Manchester United has its sights set on lifting its second UEFA Europa League title this season. After the club endured one of its worst seasons in recent memory, Erik ten Hag still managed to lift the FA Cup over rival Manchester City with a 2–1 victory at Wembley Stadium.

The 2024-25 UEFA Europa League will kick off this week as 36 teams will fight to win the first Europa League under the new format, just like the UEFA Champions League. The 36 sides will play the league phase before the knockout stages that will start in February.

Last week, Arsenal played a Champions League game on a Thursday night, with no Europa League or Conference League games played. This week, the Europa League gets its exclusive week, meaning United are handed a Wednesday kick-off, which is usually reserved for the Champions League.

Each of the 36 teams will compete in eight matches against different opponents, with four games played at home and four away. The outcomes of these matches will determine their positions in the league
