Council President Sean Elo-Rivera noted Tuesday that he brought up that building only as a way to aid anyone displaced from the Golden Hall shelter downtown. That facility was originally planned to shutter in October, but officials said the new end date is likely Dec. 31. As a result, Elo-Rivera said he no longer thought the gym would be needed.

San Diego city officials are reviewing a plan to replace more than 600 shelter beds that are expected to become offline by the end of the year.

The San Diego City Council Tuesday heard the first proposals for temporary homeless shelters around the city to make up for hundreds of shelter beds scheduled to come offline in December and early next year.
