The National Commission for Women (NCW) has directed the Bengaluru Police to expedite the arrest of those involved in Mahalakshmi's murder.

While the investigation is currently underway, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Monday said that the police have identified the prime suspect in the case.

The culprit had chopped Makalakshmi’s body into several pieces and stuffed them into the fridge in her house at Vyalikaval in Bengaluru before locking the house from outside.

According to the mother, Mahalakshmi had told her over the phone on September 2 that she would visit her husband soon. That was the last communication between the mother and the daughter.
