Emergency crews are rushing to rescue people trapped in flooded homes after Helene roared ashore as a powerful Category 4 hurricane in Florida. The system generated a massive storm surge and knocked out power to millions of customers in several states. At least six people were reported dead.

The hurricane’s winds and storm surge created havoc on the Gulf of Mexico, in coastal neighborhoods and further inland.
