(CBS DETROIT) — Exit polling data shows a shift in longtime Democratic voting blocs: Black males and Hispanics. In Michigan, 21% of Black men voted for President-elect Donald Trump; That number climbed to 58% when it came to Hispanic voters of both genders.
Tuesday was a victorious Election Day for Republicans in the swing state of Michigan, where most races were called by midday Wednesday. Republicans will retake the presidency, 7 of the state’s 13 U.S. House seats and the state House.
Down-ballot, ABC News reports Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin is the projected winner a winner in the Michigan Senate race, narrowly fending off a challenge from Republican former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers. That means the Democrats will hold the seat, which is being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
Here's a look at what's on the ballot in Michigan. In addition to the presidential race, Michigan residents will cast ballots for U.S. Senate and House races, Michigan House and Michigan Supreme Court.
Michigan Democrats will lose their historic trifecta after Republicans gained a majority in the state House of Representatives. Democrats still hold the majority in the Senate, which was not up for reelection this year,
Donald Trump’s lead in Michigan became insurmountable after he improved his margin in Detroit’s county and won overwhelmingly in Republican-leaning parts of the state, closing off Vice President Kamala Harris’ path to victory.
Ms. Harris made slight gains in Traverse City and its surrounding counties in northern Michigan, but Mr. Trump ultimately led in most of them. Ms. Harris gained only a few thousand votes in the region while Mr. Trump swept tens of thousands of votes elsewhere in the state.
