On the heels of TikTok's looming shutdown on January 19 over its ownership in the U.S. (unless the Supreme Court intervenes), it looks like another American users are flocking to a Chinese app called Xiaohongshu as people become less optimistic that TikTok can overturn U.

Chinese social media app RedNote is at the top of Apple’s app store, underscoring concerns that TikTok will soon be effectively banned in the U.S.

With days to go before TikTok may be banned in the US, users have sent a little-known app to the top of the app store charts. Xiaohongshu, also known as RedNote, may not be a household name here but it has millions of users in China,

The U.S. Supreme Court this week will decide whether to ban the widely used video-sharing app TikTok. The app, which is owned by Beijing-based company ByteDance and known for its viral videos, trending dances and widespread memes,

Users who have the TikTok app on their phone will still be able to access it after Jan. 19. However, because the ban would prevent Apple and Google from providing the app with necessary updates, TikTok would quickly break down and become unusable, leading Americans to look for an alternative app.

Recently, some U.S. TikTok users have flocked to the Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu in protest of the looming ban. Like TikTok, Xiaohongshu, which in English means “Little Red Book,” combines e-commerce and short-form videos.
