Andrew Lansing, a corrections officer at a prison in Chillicothe, Ohio, was killed Christmas Day in what state officials say was an "inmate assault."

An inmate allegedly assaulted and killed a corrections officer on Christmas Day at an Ohio prison. Authorities said the attack was "beyond comprehension."

Lansing's death is a "horrendous and heart-wrenching" reminder of what correction officers face on the job, said Chris Mabe, president of the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association. But Mabe said too many people see the risk of death and injury as just part of the job for correction officers.
