The long wait is finally over. In a YouTube video with little fanfare, Nintendo officially introduced the long-awaited Switch 2. The first true next-gen follow-up to the original Switch includes backwards-compatibility for owners of existing Switch hardware and we'll learn more about the console in a Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2,

It’s finally time: after months of teases and rumors, Nintendo has finally revealed the successor to the Switch. A new console generation is always a big deal, but this is an especially pivotal one for Nintendo.

Here’s a closer look at the Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal, broken down across 13 new images, ahead of the system’s eventual release later this year.

The new console looks physically similar to the popular Switch system, which has sold more than 146 million units in seven years.

Nintendo just revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 on its official YouTube channel. The video, titled “An update from Nintendo,” shows a full render with all of the changes to the new hardware. A full Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2 is scheduled for February 2.

There’s a new button under the home button on the right Joy-Con, which had shown up in leaks. The video also appears to show the Joy-Cons being used similarly to a mouse. And the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Cons are bigger than they are on the original Switch’s Joy-Cons.

The reveal day lines up with leaks earlier this week indicating that Nintendo was preparing to show off the Switch 2 for real after somehow going all of 2024 without so much as a peep about its upcoming hardware,
