The most miserable day of the year has to be the day after Christmas. You spend the previous 48 hours having a blast with your family. You're wrapping and exchanging gifts, eating food, watching sports and just generally having a grand old time.

To many, Dec. 26 is simply the day after Christmas or the second night of Hanukkah. But to others, it's Boxing Day.

Boxing Day is celebrated in the U.K. on Dec. 26, the day after Christmas. Despite the name, the holiday has nothing to do with the sport of boxing or returning boxes or presents.

The day started with a football match between fishermen and fireman on the beach before crews took to the seas in fancy dress for a raft race. The football match has been held every year since 1893 and the raft race since 1971.
